Carl Valente, known for his oil paintings featuring cottages, villages and missions in locations throughout the world, began his art studies at the early age of 17 when he won a scholarship to the Cleveland Art Institute. He had a distinguished career in commercial art, working as a staff artist, illustrator and designer for the Sunday color magazines of the Los Angeles Herald Examiner. Valente also executed many murals commissioned by organizations as well as private parties. His work, since he has been painting fine art full time, is concentrated on landscapes, seascapes and still life, and he is well known for a series on the California missions. He has traveled extensively, seeking out the countryside at England, Scotland, Wales and the outlying Isles. Valente’s most sought after works are the luminous paintings depicting these unique and charming areas spanning history from the 12th to the 19th century.
